Temperatures and fragrance loads are starting recommendations. Results can vary with your fragrance oil, container, wick, dye, and working environment.
How to Use AromaMax 800
1. Prepare your containers
Use clean, dry, heat-safe candle containers. Secure and center your selected wick before pouring.
2. Melt the wax
Using a double boiler or temperature-controlled wax melter, heat AromaMax 800 to approximately 170 - 180°F. Stir occasionally to ensure the wax melts evenly. Add candle dye, if desired, and mix until fully incorporated.
3. Add fragrance oil
Add your measured fragrance oil while the wax is approximately 170 - 180°F. Stir slowly and thoroughly for about 2 minutes to help distribute the fragrance evenly.
We recommend beginning your testing at an 8–10% fragrance load. AromaMax 800 is formulated for an 8 - 12% fragrance load, but adding more fragrance does not necessarily create a stronger candle. Always check the fragrance oil’s applicable usage limits.
4. Pour your candles
Allow the wax to cool to approximately 150°F before pouring slowly into your prepared containers. This is our recommended starting pour temperature.
For the best appearance, let candles cool naturally at room temperature, away from drafts and rapid temperature changes. If necessary, adjust your pouring temperature slightly to improve glass adhesion and surface finish.
5. Allow to cool and cure
Allow candles to cool and rest for at least 48 - 72 hours before initial burn testing. For a more consistent evaluation of fragrance performance, you may also compare results after approximately 7 - 10 days.
6. Perform a complete test burn
Before selling or gifting your finished candles, test the complete combination of wax, fragrance, dye, wick, and container. Evaluate flame behavior, melt pool development, soot, and container temperature throughout the candle’s usable life.
Recommended Wicks for AromaMax 800
CD wicks are our recommended first series to explore for AromaMax 800. ECO wicks are another option worth testing.
Use the inside diameter of your candle container - not the advertised jar capacity - to select an initial wick size.
Suggested CD Wick Sizes to Begin Testing
Inside container diameter CD wick sizes to test
2.5 inches CD 8-10
3.0 inches CD 10-12
3.5 inches CD 14-16
4.0 inches CD 18-20, or evaluate double wicking
These wick sizes are suggested starting points for testing, not guaranteed recommendations. Fragrance load, dye, container shape, and other variables may require a smaller or larger wick.
For best results, test neighboring sizes and evaluate the full burn life of each candle. Wider containers may benefit from double wicking.

Candle Maker’s Tips
Getting smooth tops: Pour near 150°F and allow your candles to cool slowly and evenly. Minor surface imperfections may be corrected with a heat gun.
Minimizing frosting: Natural wax blends may develop some frosting. Consistent pouring temperatures, gradual cooling, and avoiding drafts can help reduce its appearance.
Improving glass adhesion: Make sure containers are clean and dry. Slightly warming containers before pouring and testing small adjustments in pouring temperature may help reduce wet spots.
Improving fragrance throw: Review your fragrance load, mixing procedure, wick size, and curing time. More fragrance oil is not always the solution.
Working in warmer climates: AromaMax 800 has increased heat stability, but finished candles should still be protected from excessive heat and direct sunlight.
Reducing soot or mushrooming: Trim the wick before burning, avoid drafts, and test a smaller or different wick if the flame is too large or produces excess soot.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is AromaMax 800 a 100% natural wax?
Yes. AromaMax 800 is an all-natural blend of coconut, soy, and apricot waxes. The exact proportions are part of our proprietary blend.
How much fragrance oil should I use?
We suggest starting at 8 - 10% fragrance oil by weight of wax. For example, an 8% load equals 1.28 oz of fragrance oil per 16 oz of wax. AromaMax 800 supports a recommended 8 - 12% fragrance load, but the ideal amount depends on the fragrance and your finished candle’s performance.
Does AromaMax 800 require a second pour?
Typically, no. AromaMax 800 is designed as a single-pour container wax with minimal contraction. However, container dimensions, cooling conditions, and fragrance choices can affect the finished surface.
What temperature should I pour AromaMax 800?
Start at approximately 150°F. Small adjustments may improve the surface finish and glass adhesion depending on your container and working environment.
How long should I let my candles cure?
Allow at least 48 - 72 hours before initial testing. Comparing fragrance performance again after approximately 7 - 10 days can help you determine the best curing schedule for your formulation.
Which wick works best with AromaMax 800?
CD wicks are a good starting series, with ECO wicks also worth evaluating. The correct size depends primarily on your container’s inside diameter, along with fragrance load and other formulation variables. Consult our Wick Guide for more information.
Can I use AromaMax 800 to make pillar candles or wax melts?
AromaMax 800 is formulated primarily for container candles. For freestanding pillars or molded wax melts, we recommend selecting a wax developed for those applications, such as AromaMax 750.
How is AromaMax 800 different from AromaMax 700?
Both are designed for container candles. AromaMax 800 is an all-natural coconut, soy, and apricot blend known for its creamy finish, minimal frosting, and increased heat stability. AromaMax 700 is a para-soy blend offering excellent fragrance performance and smooth single-pour results.
Does this wax need additional additives?
No. AromaMax 800 is pre-blended and ready to use with compatible fragrance oils and candle dyes. Additional wax additives are generally unnecessary.
