How to Make Scented Votive Lights for Pumpkin Jack-O'-Lanterns
What You’ll Need:
- Candle wax
- Fragrance oils - choose your favorite scents from our Fall Collection
- Candle wicks - pre-tabbed wicks work great
- Heat-resistant container - for melting wax
- Double boiler or microwave-safe container
- Stirring tool
- Votive candle molds
Step 1: Prep Your Workspace
First things first, make sure your workspace is clean and ready. Lay down a protective mat to catch any spills. Gather all your materials so you’re ready to go.
Step 2: Melt the Wax
-
Set Up Your Melting Method: You can use a double boiler or a microwave. If using the microwave, place your wax in a microwave-safe container.
-
Heat the Wax: Melt the wax gently. If you’re using the double boiler, fill the bottom pot with water and heat it on medium. Put the wax in the top pot. Stir occasionally. If using the microwave, heat in short bursts (about 30 seconds each) and stir in between until fully melted.
Step 3: Add Fragrance
- Mix in the Fragrance: Once your wax is melted, remove it from heat. Add your favorite fragrance oil. A good rule of thumb is about 1 ounce of fragrance oil per pound of wax. Stir well to blend the scent evenly.
Step 4: Prepare Your Molds
-
Insert the Wicks: Place a wick in the center of each votive mold. If you’re using silicone molds, make sure the wick is straight and secure.
-
Pour the Wax: Carefully pour the scented wax into your molds, filling them just below the top. Hold the wick in place as you pour.
Step 5: Let the Candles Set
-
Cool Down: Allow the wax to cool and harden completely. This usually takes a few hours. If you’re in a hurry, you can speed it up by placing the molds in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
-
Remove the Candles: Once the candles are solid, gently pop them out of the molds. Trim the wicks to about ¼ inch.
Tips for Success:
- Safety First: Never leave lit candles unattended, especially with pets or kids around.
- Experiment with Scents: Mix and match different fragrances to create your own custom pumpkin aroma.
- Be Patient: Let the candles cool completely before removing them from the molds to avoid any mishaps.
And there you have it—a super easy way to make scented votive lights for pumpkins! This little touch will make Halloween displays extra special and inviting.
Happy crafting and spooky decorating! 🎃🕯️
